Hola Barcelona! - Part 1

Planning our trip to Spain, we decided early on to focus on just the two main Spanish cities -- Madrid and Barcelona.  This way, we would be able to relax and really take in the atmosphere and enjoy what the cities had to offer.

After spending the first half of our trip in Madrid, we were off to our next destination – Barcelona! For me personally, this was really the official start of my holiday vacation ;)  With no planned work meetings for Chichi Mary attached to this leg of the trip, I couldn’t help but look forward to the next few days in Barcelona.

After a fast two and a half hour train ride from Madrid right in the heart of Spain, we reached the coast city Barcelona, which is in the Catalonia region of Spain.  In this region, the locals speak a different dialect of Spanish. My husband (who knows a little Spanish) was a bit disappointed as he had a difficult time communicating with our taxi driver from the train station to our hotel. So it was time for him to switch off his Spanish speaking mode.

Barcelona is very different from Madrid. Madrid is pretty and very traditional in terms of architecture and food while Barcelona boasts of a different charm that is a combination of old and new.  It has a cosmopolitan vibe and as soon as you step into this charming city, you’ll have this immediate urge to explore as much as you can.

Girl's Dress Silhouettes - The Pros and Cons

As a parent of a precocious six-year old girl, I commonly hear people say that kids grow up so fast. They tell us not to blink else we'll miss their oh-so-sweet childhood years and suddenly find ourselves face to face with (gasp!) brooding, cranky teenagers  :) No surprise that I find myself agreeing.

In my role as an online retailer of boutique girl's dresses, this is one of the most common reasons I hear from parents when they say they do not like to spend too much when it comes to their kid's clothing. They are afraid of spending any significant amount on clothes that they think will be torn and tattered in a few months, or if it lasts more than that, be ill-fitting and outgrown. Admittedly, there’s truth behind this. But if you're smart about it, it's encouraging and fortunate that there are ways to get around this so we can ensure that we maximize the value of every dollar we spend on clothes.

Take Us Back To Madrid!

Our recent launch of Tartaleta at Chichi Mary made me look back at our summer trip to Spain last year. Our first destination was Madrid, one of my husband’s favorite city to date. The stunning architecture, mouth-watering food, vibrant city vibe and the warm reception of the locals make any visitor in this city wanting to go back again and again.  And if you’re travelling with kids, this is a very kid friendly city too. With playgrounds found in almost all corners -- even at some good dining spots in the city --  this is a perfect place for parents who want to dine out while your kids happily play within your sight. On this blog post, I'm sharing our favorite experiences in Madrid. Just beware, food posts can make you hungry ;)
